Message from Hannah: From You To People Living in Poverty

Dear Friends,

We are very pleased to share with you some of our exciting achievements in the last few months and reiterate our deepest gratitude to each of you, as none of it would have been possible without your support.

Our Partners and our Projects

We have established a solid relationship with 9 reputable anti-poverty and educational organizations on the ground in Angola, Burkina Faso, Ecuador, Mozambique, Pakistan, Tanzania and Thailand and have selected a portfolio of very good quality projects in the areas of health and education for at least 300,000 participants, mainly children and women, that need our help. A list of these projects can be found here.

Goods for Life

Thanks to our partnership with Mercy Corps and your generous gifts, a container with 200 computers and 800 gallons of paint has arrived this week at the port of Guayaquil in Ecuador. All the computers and the paint will be distributed to 38 poor schools around the country boosting learning for 10,500 poor children. As this experience has been extremely successful, Mercy Corps has offered to repeat a similar donation in the coming months. Pictures of some of the schools that we visited during the month of August, as well as pictures showing the arrival of the computers can be found in our Media section. More news to come soon.

Volunteers for Life

Our volunteer Liz Ross traveled in July to Bukoba, Tanzania where she worked with orphans and disabled children at the Izaas center. Many of you contributed very generously to Liz’ trip. Our blog contains numerous articles describing this experience, as well as a link to many very beautiful pictures. During her mission Liz detected a series of very urgent needs of the poor children at Izaas; the list includes wheelchairs, Braille equipment, a truck and cash to pay for children’s basic education. As we are strengthening our relationship with Izaas, we are now working to help them meet these needs.

Tees for Life

We have designed a very elegant but simple tee shirt to be donated as a gift to our donors; Liz took with her about 100 such tees as a gift to the children of Izaas. The tees have become the symbol of our outreach and connection to people living in poverty as they are being worn by our donors and at the same time, also by the children in Bukoba. We are now designing a new set of tees in partnership with a young designer, Conspiracy Eight. All net profits from the sale of the tees will go to Palms for Life.

Our “Life Savers”

In addition to the traditional way of raising funds, we have decided to organize special events and to produce a series of consumer goods “for Life.” We will keep you informed about: Art for Life, Chocolate for Life, Cooking for Life, Fashion for Life, Music for Life, and yes, Hedge for Life and a few others. There is no limit to our imagination to secure funds to help people living in poverty. If you have some creative ideas and would like to participate in any of these projects, please contact us at info@palmsforlife.org.

GivingExpress from American Express

Palms for Life Fund is one of many charities that participate in this program that allows Cardmembers who are enrolled in the Membership Rewards program to earn double points by making their online contributions at the GivingExpress program through December 31, 2007. If you are interested in this option, or in using your points to make a donation, then click here or on the GivingExpress icon on our website. Please tell others about this unique opportunity!

Dear Friends, Palms relies exclusively on voluntary contributions and your generosity is what has made all of this possible. Please feel free to share this email with your relatives and friends.

We thank you so much and will continue to keep you informed as we move ahead.

With warm regards,

Hannah and the “Palmistas”
